The Best Tattoo Shops in Chicago

Chito did an amazing job giving my best friend and I our matching tattoos! He was super friendly and accommodating, and the whole store had a pleasant vibe. Definitely one of the best tattoo experiences I’ve had!

This has to be the best piercing experience I’ve had so far. I went in to get my tongue pierced for the third time and crossed my fingers that this experience would be better than the shops I visited when I was a kid. I got pierced by Steve and his apprentice and they bother were so nice and patient. They measured me three times to make sure I had the right barbell, even pointing out the bad placement of my other two, and fitting me with the proper size. I left the shop with little pain or swelling. I’m now on day three with no complaints. The placement is perfect so it doesn’t hit my teeth or get caught when I’m chewing. Will definitely be back for my next session.

Cons:

An extremely clean, professional place to get tattooed in. From being checked on upon entering, to waiting in reception, to being walked through the process of getting my first tattoo, to receiving aftercare instructions…I felt comfortable throughout.

Flan & her work is amazing!! She is a big part of my positive experience here. Kind, patient, plus great to chat with. First came in with an idea based on multiple reference photos. Then she beautifully drew freehand, adjusting to my desires. I trusted her to make the best artist decision…came out awesome.

They have multiple artists working there that could fit the style of your piece. Making an online appointment is straightforward & from my experience, gives a quick 3-day response. I did call the shop itself to see about any walk-ins, then was fit in just a day later.

Also, for being a space on the smaller side, it still didn’t feel too crowded being in between two other work stations. One artist even allowed another client to have a family member sitting nearby (although I’m not sure if this is the norm).

Highly recommend checking this place out.

I recently got a tattoo here from Jeremy. As I was telling him, a big part of a tattoo for me is the experience and he made it an enjoyable experience. He had a laid back, empathetic, and joke around style which made interactions easy.

The vibe of the shop is chill and the other artists there were cool and welcoming when I checked in a bit early to confirm and throughout. Since I was a bit early, and totally new to the area, (came in from WI) I wandered around and ate at The Whale up the street. I’d highly recommend that place, too and the vegan pulled pork sandwich was legit.

Came back and sorted out the sizing, placement, and other specifics. Jeremy even let me get emo for a minute about all my life issues that precipitated me needing some tattoo therapy.

Once the needle hit the skin he worked pretty quickly and out came a very good portrait of my multepoo pooch, Maggie. High fived and on my way out got a cherry lambic ale from the boutique liquor store in the adjacent building. Then ubered back to the hotel. I’m sure I’ll be back for more work.

Overall 10/10 tattoo experience and outcome, would recommend.

Angel is a beast!! Talented artist, very attentive. Makes sure that I am at ease and always makes great conversations. Victoria always works around my schedule.

I love the shop, the ambiance is great. Wouldn’t trade them for the world.

Had a great experience at Tattoo Boulevard! Was visiting from out of town and stopped by here for an appointment with Luke. He was extremely helpful and did a fantastic job! Shop was very clean and welcoming, will definitely stop by here again!

It was a pleasant experience, I came in the afternoon, was assisted quickly and to the point. I did get an ear piercing, which was the helix. I was assisted by Karen, very sweet and professional. The piercing was well done and service was well done, so thank you! The shop is amazing, definitely recommend to visit!

I had tattoo around 15 years ago and were in poor condition, she did a correction and new design with a beautiful color! She was very patient, she explained the process and all about to the previous work that I had, she worked with care and patience, also healed perfectly, she was very hygienic, She is great doing piercings too, I get my lips and belly button in previous visits , 100% recommended.

I’ve been coming here for a few months and specifically I’ve gotten tattooed by Lee and Ranae but everyone in the shop is so talented and kind. Personally, I really like flash and this whole shop is filled with unique traditional designs, there’s not a bad one on the wall honestly. Family tattoo is a real gem and I plan to keep coming back until there’s no more room left! Can’t recommend them enough.

I have been going to Family Tattoo for a number of years now and realized I never wrote a review. I cannot speak highly enough of this place, especially Bob and Amanda. Both of them are true artists, in every sense of the word, and put time and effort into their tattoos and craft. I took my 70-year-old Dad here to get tattoo’ed as well and they treated him with kindness and he loves his tattoo. Thanks guys!

Where do I even start.. this place has become a second home. I have horrible anxiety was too afraid to reach out to any artists although I had wanted to get a sleeve done. I was so nervous to reach out but Vanessa and her assistant made me feel SO calm. We instantly vibed and I’ve been seeing her at LEAST once a month since then. Once we finished my sleeve, we started on the legs.. Vanessa is just too talented. The shop is so chill – it’s filled with plants, art, amazing people, and great music. I’ve also gotten work done by Vernon, and he is the coolest, most down the earth dude as well. The owners are incredibly talented, even with their businesses outside of the shop. They always have fundraisers and are just genuinely incredible people. PLEASE give them a try, you will not regret it!!

Since I do love getting tattooed, this is my favorite place! Clean, which is the most important, sunny, happy place ! Vanessa is my favorite artist. She is amazing!

This was an amazing experience for me! Caitlin was my artist and she was incredible! This was my first tattoo and I had a specific idea that I have been wanting for several years. Caitlin was able to create exactly what I wanted! I was naturally a little nervous about getting my first tattoo, but after discussing the design and making some minor changes I was completely at ease! She answered all of my questions without hesitation, she was incredibly knowledgeable, and the tattoo came out looking better than I had hoped!

Evoke is a very unique and inviting space. The shop itself is very clean and comfortable to be in. I was the only one in the shop since my appointment was right at opening, so it was very quiet and relaxing.

I just got this done, so the tattoo is still healing, but I can confidently say that I will be reaching out to Caitlin when I am ready for my next tattoo! 🙂

This place is great! My tattoo was done perfectly down to every detail. The artist took time to ask me exactly what I wanted and immediately when I walked in the door we were tended to. This was also my first tattoo and the host was very comforting and let me know tips for aftercare as well. I will definitely be back !

I got matching tattoos with my best friend there 5 years ago and they still look so good and Kurt did an absolutly amazing job!

My niece Yami recommended Bill for my evil eye tattoo not only was Bill caring about my design of my tattoo it was painless, fast, and healed fast. Will be coming here for my future tattoos. My daughter absolutely loved her tattoo as well he will be our tattoo artist moving forward. Highly recommended.
